Alpha Omicron Pi Hosts Annual Battle of the Bands

On April 4th, 2024, the Lambda Sigma chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi hosted its third annual Battle of the Bands philanthropy event. The chapter raised over $25,000 with all of the proceeds going directly to the Juvenile Arthritis Foundation.

The Juvenile Arthritis Foundation is Alpha Omicron Pi’s national philanthropy. The chapter works with the foundation each year to raise money and awareness for those affected by arthritis.

“Battle of the Bands is truly one of my favorite events that I have been a part of with Alpha Omicron Pi,” said Chloe Friedel. “Seeing our chapter come together with the Athens community, local bands, friends, and family all in support of our philanthropy is just incredible.”

Over 600 people attended this year’s Battle of the Bands, which took place at Terrapin Brewing Company from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests enjoyed three food trucks consisting of Baddies Burgers, SuperTaco, and King of Pops, all of which donated 10% back to the philanthropy.

This year’s artists included Colleen Mckenna, the Sam Knight Band, the Cam Smith Band, the Gringos, and Lawless. In addition to the music, two current chapter members who have been affected by juvenile arthritis spoke on behalf of their experiences and how the foundation has helped them in their journey.

As the event concluded, the winning band was decided upon based off of Venmo entries of $5 and Lawless won the competition.

“I am so proud to be a part of a chapter that is dedicated to serving a cause that we are so passionate about,” said Friedel.
