Members of Sigma Sigma Rho with awards

Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. Honored at Annual Convention

On Saturday, February 10th, the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Incorporated attended the 2024 Southeast Regional Convention in Macon, Georgia. The convention was hosted by the Chi Chapter of Sigma Sigma Rho at Mercer University, which was founded by one of UGA’s Epsilon Chapter members in 2017.

The Southeast Region of Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. is the largest region with seven chapters. The convention allowed members to network with other chapters, connect with national leadership, attend workshops, and have an awards ceremony highlighting the achievements of the organization.

UGA’s Epsilon Chapter brought home two awards from this year’s convention. The awards received are listed below:

– Commitment to Society

– Chapter Leader of the Year

The Epsilon Chapter was the chapter with the most community service hours this year. Every semester, each member is required to complete 15 hours of community service. Many of these service hours come from working with local Athens organizations like UGA Campus Kitchen, Project Safe Inc., Athens Area Humane Society, and road clean-ups.

Additionally, Chapter President Niki Swamy was awarded the Chapter Leader of the Year Award. Swamy crossed into Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. in the Fall of 2021 as a part of the Angelic Alpha Beta Class.

Under Swamy’s leadership, Sigma Sigma Rho’s GPA was ranked number two out of the 13 organizations in the Multicultural Greek Council for this semester’s Greek grade report. Furthermore, Swamy encourages the chapter to use Greek Life as a tool to give back to local communities, as well as to be good leaders in the South Asian American community.

Other members of the chapter were nominated for awards during the convention as well. These nominations included Heli Chauhan for the Neo of the Year Award, Diya Patel for the Commitment to Remembrance Award, and Sahana Basker for the Commitment to Sisterhood Award.

The event concluded with a Mardi Gras-themed semi-formal. Congratulations to the Epsilon Chapter on these achievements!
