Sigma Nu’s Annual Jam for Cam Raises Over $185,000
Jam For Cam is an annual event held in commemoration of Cameron Fearon, a fellow UGA student that passed away in 2018 after a long and hard-fought battle with metastatic melanoma. Not only is the event a time of joy, celebration, and jamming out to some good music, but it’s also a time for everyone to come together and unite to support the ongoing efforts toward melanoma research and awareness.
Every year, a large portion of our donations are sent to the Melanoma Research Foundation and Camp Carolina. The Melanoma Research Foundation is a large advocate and supporter of melanoma awareness and treatment. Camp Carolina was selected as a recipient because Cameron grew up attending their camps and some of the best memories of his childhood life were made there. The money given to Camp Carolina is placed in a scholarship fund that helps to send children to Camp Carolina that otherwise would not be able to afford it financially. Every year a third charity is picked by the leading members of Jam For Cam and this year the Sunshine Fund was chosen because it serves as an important mental health resource for UGA students.
This year’s event was a great success due to the six bands that played nonstop music at Southern Brewing Company. It opened with Florida Man Band followed by The Regulars, Wim Tapley & The Cannons, Supper Club, The Orange Constant, and finally the headliner Ripe. These bands were instrumental in achieving Jam For Cam 2022’s success by having around 3,500 attendees and raising over $185,000.
This event is more than just raising money for cancer research and scholarships, we are committed to bringing a community together where every individual is held equal and can come together to celebrate life. Sigma Nu wants to thank everyone who has helped in their journey and hope to see you again next year.
