Riya Pandya Named Multicultural Greek Council Member of the Year at SGLA
At this year’s Southern Greek Leadership Association annual conference, Riya Pandya was named the Multicultural Greek Council Member of the Year. According to SGLA’s award criteria, “this award [recognizes] an undergraduate Greek member in the Southeast who is a role model to their peers and consistently illustrates what it means to live with integrity and by the values of their organization.”
Riya serves as President of the University of Georgia’s Multicultural Greek Council. She also served on last year’s board as VP Public Relations. She is a member of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. where she has held numerous positions such as Service Chair, Recruitment Chair, Social Chair, MGC Delegate and Stroll Captain.
She is also a Greek Fellow within the Greek Life Office’s Emerging Greek Leaders Program and a sophomore majoring in elementary education.
“Riya continues to be an amazing leader within the Greek community. Her selflessness and desire to help others shows in everything she does,” said Assistant Director & Advisor to NPHC & MGC Montrez Greene.
Additionally, Riya has completed over 100 hours of community service by volunteering at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, Books for Keeps, Adopt-A-Highway, Science Olympia, Extra Special People and other local agencies.
Apart from Greek Life Riya has been a UGA Camp Leader and served on the Science Olympia Executive Board.
No matter the organization, Riya exemplifies the Delta Phi Omega Sorority Inc. core values – friendship, loyalty, sisterhood, respect and honesty. Her leadership style is described as authentic, ambitious, communicative and creative. Overall, she is an active listener who focuses on relationship-building within her community.
“I am so proud to know Riya through our organization, Delta Phi Omega Sorority Inc., and by the end of this year, it will be two years of us being on MGC Exec together. She has grown to be such a great leader and continues to put forth her best effort every day. Riya is caring, talented, and very driven in anything she puts her mind to. It has been a pleasure knowing Riya for these past two years and I can confidently say Riya is the most deserving of this award. I cannot wait to see all the great work Riya is going to do as our MGC Exec President,” said MGC VP of Finance and Delta Phi Omega Sorority Inc. member Gargi Patel.
