National Founding: January 10, 1899
Local Founding: March 25, 1972
Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded nationally at Illinois Wesleyan University on January 10, 1899. The Xi Lambda Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon began as a local fraternity on the UGA campus in January 1970. The founding members of the group called themselves Upsilon Gamma Alpha (UGA). On October 12, 1971, Upsilon Gamma Alpha was admitted to the University's Interfraternity Council and later installed as a chapter on March 27, 1972. This group created the foundation upon which the Xi Lambda Chapter was built.
With over 100 years since our founding, TKE has grown to become the largest fraternity in the world with over 243,000 initiates in almost 300 active groups. Notable alumni include former president Ronald Reagan, Edward Droste, founder of Hooters, Willie Nelson, and former Xi Lambda Alumni B. Scott Smith, President of Sonic Automotive Group.
TKE maintains a packed social calendar with events such as tailgates on north campus in the fall, the TKE's of Hazzard Date Night, band parties featuring Crumbling Arches and Bumpman, the Red Carnation Ball Formal in Gatlinburg, TN, the Wyndel Peacock Shrimpfest for G-Day, and our end of the year Bombshell Party.
Through the Tau Kappa Epsilon experience, you will not only be able to enjoy a multitude of social events, but also gain the experience and tools necessary to become an active leader in the community and in your future career.
