Sigma Nu

Sigma Nu House

National Founding: 1869
Local Founding: 1873

Founded by three cadets at the Virginia Military Institute in 1869, Sigma Nu Fraternity has grown to become one the ten largest fraternities nationwide, with nearly 200 chapters and over 200,000 initiates.  It was founded and remains in direct opposition to hazing, with the purpose of building men of honor and developing ethical leaders for society. Mu Chapter was founded in 1873 as one of the eight original fraternities at The University of Georgia.  It is the oldest continuously-active chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity nationwide.  Since its founding, Mu Chapter has initiated over 2,500 men, to include Georgia governors Eugene and Herman Talmadge, AFLAC CEO Dan Amos, and former CNN president Tom Johnson. Campus involvement remains an important component of Mu Chapter’s success.  Our members are involved in most every major campus organization including the Interfraternity Council, Student Government Association, Arch Society, Corsair Society, and club and intramural sports.  Moreover, our grades consistently rank amongst the highest of all campus fraternities.  Philanthropically, Mu Chapter supports the American Heart Association through its sponsorship of the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award.  Additionally, our members enjoy an active social calendar including tailgates, date nights, sorority socials, and band parties, in addition to our annual White Rose Formal in Charleston, South Carolina, and White Star Beach Weekend in Panama City, Florida.  Finally, Mu Chapter is proud of our new, multi-million dollar home on River Road, just steps away from Sanford Stadium. After 139 years of existence, Mu Chapter remains highly respected in both the Greek and local community.  We are looking for a new generation of leaders with vision and courage to continue our tradition of excellence.
